Good Examples

On this website we put the spotlight on those people and organizations that constitute Södertälje Sustainable Food Society. It is a cluster of farms, producers, public kitchens and others who want to change the way food is produced and the way in which it is consumed.

We believe that everyone who wants to in us in this work is a good example of how you contribute to making the world a better place. That’s why we want to present them here. And we want this sustainable food society to grow!

The people behind all these good examples all work to make food friendlier to the Baltic Sea (read about Diet for a Clean Baltic here). They do this in different ways; either by being farmers or producers, or through services, knowledge sharing, marketing or networking.

Use these people and organisations. Visit them, ask them about their products or services. Recommend them to others! The more people who share our ideas, the stronger Södertälje Sustainable Food Society will become.

  • SILVASKOG – in the forests of NIBBLE FARM

Ecological forestry – a good business.
Modern forestry is carried out as plantation forestry where the primeval forest is removed and replaced with a plantation forest. This is true in many countries, as well as in Sweden. We would like to change this. “Forests have evolved for millennia where nature itself has been allowed to shape the landscape. This is the foundation of the Silvaskog AB advisory.” Welcome to our scenic trail at Niblble farm, through forest, rocks and meadows along the Baltic Sea.

The production of grain is delivered to the mill and bakery of Saltå Kvarn. Manure from the animals also supply two local garden centers with their need of fertilizer (ERA-gardens). At the smaller farm Skilleby long-term trials are being carried out since 1991. The experiments investigate the impact on long-term soil fertility, crop quality and yield from different types and amounts of manure and grassdominated crop rotation. Dams that help reduce nutrient losses are also part of the research carried out. There is an informative hiking trail and guided tours are arranged. Research results have relevance to matters of nutrient leakage, climate issues and long-term soil fertility. For visits contact; sbfi@jdb.se (www.jdb.se/sbfi)
